Thinking About Test Questions (and Choosing Interactions) According to Task Type
Task sub-type: PINPOINT
In the section Sub-types of IDENTIFY, the two most typical interactions used for the task sub-type PINPOINT were named as Select Point and Slider.
The Select Point interaction is quite similar to the Hotspot interaction described in the previous section in the sense that candidates are also asked to identify a place on an image. The difference is that in a Select Point interaction, the places on the image form part of a continuum, and candidates are asked to pinpoint a position within this continuum. In the example below, candidates are asked to pinpoint on a map the position of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano in Iceland.

The Slider interaction is used for the candidate to demonstrate knowledge of a numerical type, such as a percentage or a total. As with the Select Point interaction above, the range of possible responses is presented in the form of a continuum. In this case, the answer is conveyed by sliding an indicator on a horizontal scale. In the example below, candidates are asked to pinpoint what percentage of the distance traveled for a business trip the employee has completed at the point specified.
