Summary

The Advanced Search function increases the capability of searches in TAO to find what you need in your libraries, as you can make your search much more refined. The most refined search relies on installing the Elastic Search software, as it enables you to add extra criteria to your search. This is available to TAO Enterprise customers.

To summarize these capabilities: One of the features of the advanced search is to find content within a class. Hence, class names are included in the search (though not sub-classes). In other words, items can be found in a search if the class they are in matches the search query. So, if your search query is 'Capital Cities', items in the class 'Capital Cities of the World' will be found even if 'Capital Cities' is not specified in the item's name or its description (its properties). The search query only needs to match one word of the label or item properties. For example, if your search criteria is the property 'description' in a particular class of items, and your search query is the word 'French', you will also find items with the description 'French reading'.

A note on restrictions: The search cannot match onto part of a word – i.e. partial searches are not possible. It is also not possible to search through earlier versions in the history of an item: only the last revision is included in the search. An item needs to match all the search criteria before it is found.
