Summary and Conclusion

Concluding Part 3

In Part 3 of this course we looked at the terminology relating to scoring finished assessments.

First, the general concepts which form the basis of the problematic terms were examined, before applying them to the specific scenarios in which they are used, within the areas of item processing and of test processing.

The general concepts considered were: Variable, Declaration, Processing, and Outcome

In the processing of items, they translate to the following specific terms: Response Variable, Response Declaration, Response Processing, and Item Outcome

In the processing of tests, they translate to the following specific terms: Outcome Variable, Outcome Declaration, Outcome Processing, and Test Outcome.

Diagrams were provided to depict the processing of items and the processing of tests, to help end users visualize the roles these terms, and what they refer to, play in the scoring process.
