Thinking About Test Questions (and Choosing Interactions) According to Task Type
How large should your pictures be?
In TAO, items are responsive, which means they adapt to the available screen size. You will only need one picture to cover all sizes.
The largest possible picture width in TAO is 964px, corresponding to the width of a full-size text block. The next size down is 946px for the background of a full-size Graphics Interaction.
As you probably know, the TAO Item Editor is a 12-column grid system where you can change the width of each element to fit your layout. As a result, there is an ideal picture width for any number of columns.
In the table below, “Text Block” refers to pictures that take the full size of a Text Block. Using smaller pictures is possible; they will then be displayed in their natural size. “Graphic Interaction” refers to the use of a background image in any Graphic Interaction. In this context, smaller pictures will be stretched.

The picture sizing tool
You could resize the picture using the sizing tool, but this doesn’t change its physical size, it just displays it on a smaller scale. The file size and by implication download size remain the same.
